NECMA Celebrates Community Services Programs for 2012
NECMA is proud to be part of the “CLUBS COLLECTING FOR COMMUNITIES” where we can make a difference in peoples lives.
Our “Spring” project will be to collect gently used or new shoes for “Soles 4 Souls” a Nashville based charity that collects shoes and distributes them to victims of natural disasters and poverty around the world. This charity began in the aftermath of the Southeast Asia’s 2004 tsunami and again after Hurricane Katrina.
Over 14 million shoes have been donated from over stocked shoe companies and shoe drives across the country. Also by donating used shoes, instead of throwing in our landfills which the toxic glue can leak into water supplies. Shoes that are past worn go to the “Micro-Enterprise Program” for people in developing countries to start a business. They in turn clean them, refurbish them and then sell them for a profit or trade then for goods they need. This gives these people a trade and a chance to make a living for their family.
We will be collecting gently used “SHOES” at each of our meetings:
Tuesday, April 17th at Salem Country Club
Monday, June 11th at Conanicut Yacht Club
Additional dates to be decided depending on the collection.
Please being your men’s, women’s and children’s shoes to the clubs listed. Thank you for your contribution.
