THE NEW YORK YACHT CLUB – Newport, Rhode Island DINING ROOM MANAGER

Harbour Court is the Newport RI Clubhouse of the New York Yacht Club. The stunning Normandy-style chateau sits on eight acres of land and directly overlooks the busy Newport, Rhode Island Harbor. As the waterfront home of the this Internationally famous organization, Harbour Court is a dynamic, active club environment, with operations in several areas including overnight rooms, sailing and waterfront services, special events and a la carte dining.
Position Description: The Dining Room Manager is responsible for all facets of supervision in multiple dining rooms. These include a 50-seat casual dining room and adjacent outdoor terrace area with 50 additional seats, as well as a formal dining room. The casual dining room operates seven days per week in-season, with breakfast, lunch and dinner service available. Hours of operation are scaled back in the shoulder and off-season. The formal dining room is open on weekends, in-season. In addition, the Dining Room Manager provides support and managerial oversight to the very active banquet department. Reporting directly to the Manager, The Dining Room Manager works closely with the Executive Chef and Sous Chef, to maintain high standards of service and guest satisfaction.
This is a hands-on position, with an emphasis on direct guest service. The Dining Room manager will maintain a regular presence on the dining room floor including serving as maitre’ d. This position supervises a staff of approximately 40 servers, bartenders and captains. Direct responsibilities in addition to day-to-day staff supervision include recruitment, hiring, training and scheduling staff to budgeted levels, and periodic employee reviews. Leadership ability, especially the ability to positively and energetically motivate employees to maintain very high service standards, is critical. Leadership by example is essential in this role and it is expected that the Dining Room Manager will directly provide a high-level of service to members and come to be seen as a “go-to” person for guests. He / she will maintain a strong working knowledge of dining room procedures, policies and systems, including the POS system, and will also be expected to develop and implement new systems as well.
Qualifications: Progressive management experience in food and beverage operations, including budgetary and supervisory responsibilities. Previous club experience is desirable.
Schedule: Full-time, year-round.
Compensation: Salary Commensurate with Experience. Medical and Dental Benefits through Blue Cross Blue Shield,. 401k, club contributes 5% of gross pay. Annual performance bonus.
