WORCESTER COUNTRY CLUB, Worcester, Massachusetts GENERAL MANAGER
FACILITIES DESCRIPTION: Worcester Country Club enjoys a solid reputation and a storied history. Thirteen years after its founding in 1900, new facilities arose at a different location in northern Worcester. Donald Ross personally oversaw the construction of the highly regarded course that stretches to over 6700 yards and plays to a par of 70. Worcester played host to three major championships; the 1925 U.S. Open, the 1960 Women's U.S. Open and the inaugural Ryder Cup, in 1927. We still play host to important state events such as the Massachusetts Open and Amateur. The Tudor style clubhouse features architectural details of a bygone era as well as the amenities of today. With a constantly changing menu, dedicated staff and dependable wine cellar there is plenty to attract the hungry soul.
In addition to the golf course and practice range the club has two lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, Olympic size and toddler outdoor pools and two candlepin bowling alleys. Worcester is a family-oriented and member-owned club of 400 members. We seek a full time General Manager to function as the COO and report to the Board of Governors. Full formal and casual dining room services are available mid-January through December. The clubhouse is open 6 days a week, 12 months of the year. Total club budget is $5.1 million with non-dues revenues of $2.7 million. Worcester is considered to be among the finest country clubs in New England.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: The General Manager serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Club and reports to the President and Board of Governors. The General Manager is responsible for implementing the policies and procedures defined by the Board. The GM/COO is responsible for oversight and management of all Club operations including golf, golf maintenance, tennis, pools, the food and beverage staff and facilities. Reporting to this position are the Comptroller, Golf Professional, Course Superintendent, Director of Dining and Banquet Operations, and Club House Maintenance. The General Manager is expected to balance the interests of the membership and resources of the Club in developing service and support standards for all Club activities and operating functions.
Worcester Country Club is looking for an individual with a demonstrated mix of proactive vision, seasoned planning skills and a leadership presence. The new General Manager will be someone with five or more years experience in country club or resort management and have earned a Bachelors Degree, preferably in Business Management and/or Hospitality Management They will display strong communication skills in leading a team of established department heads and operate at the highest level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism. In addition to possessing a strong work ethic they must be excited about leading an established and respected club into the future.
