SPRING VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB, Sharon, Massachusetts GENERAL MANAGER
PROPERTY DESCRIPTION: Established in 1961, Spring Valley Country Club is a full service country club consisting currently of 200 members with an optimum membership of approximately 275. The club has a young and vibrant membership and prides itself on being able to offer an intimate environment. The club offers an 18 hole golf course; family orientated swimming pool (with separate kiddy pool), 4 har-tru tennis courts, newly renovated locker room facility and full food and beverage operations. The club has just completed a 3 million dollar golf course improvement program consisting of a redesign and rebuilding of all 18 greens, the installation of a state of the art irrigation system, and a course drainage project making Spring Valley poised to become the premier golf course and country club in New England. The club is open 7 days a week 6 months a year and weekends only April & November. Gross volume is $2,600,000 with food & beverage revenues of $850,000.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The General Manager is the club’s most senior staff executive, responsible for the success of all aspects of club goals and activities, and most of all, achieving maximum satisfaction of both members and their guests. These outcomes will be achieved by devoting full time attention to operations, planning, staff performance and coordination and being both visible and accessible to the membership.
The General Manager will report to the President and Board of Governors and be an ex officio member of various club committees. Duties will include the direct supervision of the food and beverage, pool, tennis, and clubhouse staff and their respective operations, including the overseeing and coordination of the golf course superintendent and golf professional. Other responsibilities are to develop and coordinate annual operating and capital budgets, enforce club policies and procedures, manage club finances, and maintain club assets and facilities.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will be energetic, personable, service-oriented, and responsive to both members’ and employees’ needs. Extensive food and beverage experience with five or more years as a club or operations manager at a private membership club is a must. In addition, a good understanding of facility management and human resources are needed.
A hospitality degree from an accredited university is preferred. Certification demonstrating continued professional development in the areas of hospitality and club management is desired.
COMPENSATION: Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, life insurance, IRA contribution, CMAA and other professional memberships.
