The Newport Country Club with its historic clubhouse was one of the five clubs that founded the United States Golf Association. The Clubhouse was designed by noted architect Whitney Warren. The Clubhouse underwent a major historic restoration in 2005, and was re opened in time to host the 2006 US Women’s Open.

CLUBHOUSE MANAGER (seasonal)


Facilities description:
Founded in 1893.  18 hole golf course.  The Newport Country Club with its historic clubhouse was one of the five clubs that founded the United States Golf Association. The Clubhouse was designed by noted architect Whitney Warren. The Clubhouse underwent a major historic restoration in 2005, and was re opened in time to host the 2006 US Women’s Open.  In 1895 the Club hosted the first US Amateur Championship and the first US. Open. In 1995, it hosted the US Amateur Championship Centennial Tournament.  Approximately 240 members.   Dining: Only available for lunch. Full bar facilities.  The Club is open seasonally from early April to the beginning of November.

Job Details:
The Club is looking to hire a Clubhouse manager. This person will have responsibility for the Clubhouse and surrounding property. This person will be responsible for managing all matters pertaining to the operation and upkeep of the Clubhouse. This will include managing the operation and proper upkeep of the historic Clubhouse, hiring, supervision and training of staff, member and guest relations, and food service. The Clubhouse is staffed with bar tenders and locker room attendants. As noted, the manager is responsible for managing a luncheon service to members and guests. Traditionally, this has been through contract with an outside caterer. The manager will be responsible for drafting annual budgets and to manage the Clubhouse within budget when approved by the Board.

Experience and training Qualifications:
Ideally, the individual will have management level hospitality experience in either private club or hospitality industry positions. Formal training with the Clubhouse Managers’ Association is a plus.

This is a seasonal position from April through October. However, the Club is flexible as to whether additional work might be available during the remaining months of the year.
