STONINGTON HARBOR YACHT CLUB, Stonington, Connecticutt SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM COORDINATOR FACILITIES DESCRIPTION: SHYC, a leading yacht club located in Stonington, CT, has a 10,000 square foot Clubhouse that opened in Dec 2005. Facilities include DR, Terrace, Bar, Library, Founders & Harbor Room. 32 Slip Docks for seasonal rental and over 250' of transient dock space.  CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: SHYC seeks a qualified person with a strong interest in children, appropriate training and demonstrable skills, to develop and conduct a summer-season youth activities program for members’ children between the ages of 6 and 12.  The Youth Program is intended to complement an existing and highly successful Community Sailing Program, which runs weekdays from June 25 through August 17. Activities take place after the sailing program and on some evenings / weekend days. While the Coordinator will not have any responsibility for sail education, she / he will need to work closely with the Community Sailing Director and share in the development of some events. He / she will also help the General Manager and Youth Committee chair in developing a plan for September – May youth programming.  A successful applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and professional training / experience relating to the care and leadership of elementary-age children. A current Red Cross Waterfront Safety or Senior Life Saving Certificate, plus First Aid and CPR qualification, are essential. Familiarity with boating and water sport activities is not mandatory, but experience and enthusiasm will be a plus. Strong references are necessary and an applicant must agree to authorize an independent background check. JOB VALUE/COMPENSATION: The Youth coordinator will begin work on June 19, 2007, and end on August 22. Compensation will be commensurate with skills and experience. If needed, the club will assist a successful candidate in finding appropriate lodgings.
