Round Hill Club
JOB OPENING TITLE:
The Round Hill Club is a premier, old-line, very private club established in 1924 that has earned the distinction of being a Platinum Club of America. The Club is located in the prestigious community of Greenwich, Connecticut where the population is approximately 62,000 and home to many hedge fund, fortune 100 and financial service companies. Members of this exceptional family club are all residents of this affluent community and reflect clearly the top in the world’s business and social communities.
The Club features a Walter Travis design 18-hole par 71 golf course with practice facility; total yardage is 6,580 and annual rounds are approximately 12,000. Additional amenities include: a traditional pool facility with a seasonal dining venue, eight outdoor har-tru tennis courts and pro shop, two indoor tennis courts, single and doubles squash facilities and a 1,500 square foot fitness center. Youth activities are offered in golf, tennis and swimming, and lessons and clinics are available for adults in golf and tennis. Fitness classes and personal training are also available to members. The Club has approximately 580 member families.
The quintessential New England stone clubhouse features the traditional informal and formal dining opportunities with various private event spaces. The Club is open year round with a three week closure of the restaurant in March for routine maintenance. Gross revenue is $9 million with $2 million derived from food and beverage sales; approximately 17% of food and beverage sales are generated from private events.
The General Manager has full responsibility for all aspects of club operations, reporting to the Club President and Board of Directors. He/she will lead the management team which includes the Controller, Clubhouse Manager, HR & Member Communications Manager, Head Engineer, Golf Course Superintendent, Head Golf Professional, Head Tennis Professional, Head Squash Professional, Camp and Fitness Director. The General Manager will also indirectly supervise all employees of the Club. He/she will interact with the membership, both through the Club’s committee structure and through daily contact.
The successful candidate will have proven experience leading and managing all facets of a private club. With full P&L responsibility, the position requires a strong and personable leader who will present new ideas and options to invigorate overall club member participation with emphasis on golf operations and food and beverage programming. Candidates must possess strong communication, operational and excellent financial skills and have the ability to work with a traditional Board and Committees to proactively and thoughtfully bring innovative options and solutions to the table and follow through to execution at a pace appropriate to the Club’s culture.
The General Manager will represent the Club in the community and must exhibit the highest level of personal and professional conduct both within and outside the Club. Also important is being passionate about maintaining the high brand and high profile of the Round Hill Club with a presence, gravitas and sense of sophistication in order to command the respect of all constituencies along with an affable personality.
The General Manager is retiring in the fall after 38 years of excellent service. The new General Manager will be expected to have an affable personality and continue the established and honored traditions to maintain the high standards and low profile of the Round Hill Club with his or her presence, gravitas and sense of sophistication to command the respect of all constituencies. Only candidates with similar culture club experience with excellent career progression and academics will be considered.
