DAVID MEADOR FOUNDATION STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP

The New England Club Managers Association, The Original Chapter of the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), and its David Meador Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable organization, continues its dedication and support to students of hospitality studies, and those interested in the club management profession with annual granting of student scholarships.
The David Meador Fund Scholarship Fund was created by the New England Club Managers Association with a generous donation from the Members of the Chilton Club (Boston, MA) in memory of their well-respected Club Manager, David Meador, a Member of NECMA, who passed away in 1975 while on duty at the Chilton Club.
In addition to granting scholarships to students interested in pursuing a career in the club management profession, the David Meador Scholarship Fund grants annual Professional Development Scholarships, and grants for Student Chapter Member's registration fees to the CMAA Annual World Conference on Club Management as well as providing funding for the New England Club Managers Association for their continuing education and professional development programs
- Scholarship awards are given annually to eligible individuals from the following categories:
(a) members of an affiliated Student Chapter of CMAA seeking Private Club Management as a career having a major or minor in Hospitality
(b) full time students seeking a career within the Hospitality field and have worked within the private club industry having a major or minor in Hospitality'
- The deadline for receiving all applications is October 3, 2012; late applications will not be considered. (In the hands of the Committee by said date).
- Applications are available on line at the Chapter website, www.NECMA.org in the Student section.
- All applications must meet the requirements listed below.
- Applications are reviewed and rated by the Scholarship Committee, a sub-committee of the Chapter Board and then presented to the Board for approval.
- Up to four (4) Scholarships will be awarded: Two scholarships will be awarded to category “a” and two scholarships may be awarded to the category “b”. If there are no category “b” applicants all 4 scholarships may be awarded to successful category “a” applicants.
- All or part of the scholarships may be awarded solely based on the recommendation from the Scholarship Committee to the NECMA Board and have Board approval.
- Scholarship recipients will be notified of their achievement and the awards will be presented to the recipients at the NECMA Annual Meeting, held the last Monday in October. The recipients are invited to attend with their parents or guardians as the guests of the New England Club Managers Association.
- Professional journals and hometown newspapers will receive a press release of the announcement.
General Eligibility Requirements
- Applications must be typed with correct grammar and spelling.
- Provide a current official transcript from your college or university.
- Two (2) reference letters from at least one Club Manager and one Professor from your current college or university.
- A completed essay as per the Scholarship Application.
- One completed application will be considered from each candidate.
- Only complete applications will be considered.
- A complete application includes submitting all the required attachments, transcripts, references and essay with your application. Late and incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- The completed application must be in the hands of the Committee by October 4, 2013.
Club Management Student Scholarship (category A)
- Must be a full time student enrolled in a hospitality degree program.
- Has completed at least two (2) semesters of college with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- An active Student Member of CMAA.
- Has worked at least one season at a private club and can demonstrate an interest in pursuing Private Club Management as a career.
- Has attended at least one NECMA Meeting each year they are a CMAA member.
- Has met all of the General Eligibility Requirements.
Hospitality-Food Service Scholarships (category B)
- Must be a full time student enrolled in a 4 year hospitality degree program. Minors in Hospitality Management will be considered.
- Has completed at least one year of college with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Has worked at least one season at a private club and can demonstrate an interest in pursuing Hospitality Management as a career.
- Has met all of the General Eligibility Requirements.

NECMA DAVID MEADOR FOUNDATION STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

In December 2010, NECMA established a 501c-3 corporation named New England Club Managers David Meador Foundation, the general purpose of the Corporation is to foster intellectual excellence in the field of club management by securing funds from contributions to be used for educational purposes and assist students, by way of providing scholarship grants, seeking an education in the hospitality profession. The Corporation’s charitable and educational purposes are to provide educational and training opportunities for club managers and students engaged and employed in the private club and hospitality industry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont
